GREEN AND ENERGY TRANSITIONS

Green and Energy Transitions

DWG Next advises clients at the forefront of the global shift toward sustainable energy systems, delivering sophisticated legal and strategic support across a wide range of clean energy initiatives. We assist in aligning complex projects with evolving EU sustainable finance legislation and broader international regulatory frameworks. By integrating legal analysis with financial structuring and technical evaluation, we enable clients to advance environmentally and commercially viable energy infrastructure. Our team formulates solutions that account for regulatory compliance, market mechanisms, and long-term investment security. We work across technologies and jurisdictions, supporting innovation in renewable generation, storage, transmission, and decarbonisation strategies. Through continuous engagement with EU institutions, national authorities, and industry stakeholders, we ensure that client initiatives remain policy-aligned and implementation-ready in a rapidly transforming energy landscape.

We guide our clients through:

  • Structuring green, sustainable, and climate finance instruments in alignment with the EU Taxonomy Regulation, the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), and other applicable EU sustainable finance legislation.

  • Advising on the issuance of green, social, sustainability-linked, and climate bonds under the EU Green Bond Standard and related international frameworks.

  • Facilitating access to EU and international funding programs, such as the Innovation Fund, Horizon Europe, the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), and the Modernisation Fund, to support decarbonisation, renewable energy deployment, and infrastructure upgrades.

  • Designing and implementing bankable project finance structures for utility-scale and distributed renewable energy assets, including solar photovoltaic (PV) parks and onshore/offshore wind farms.

  • Drafting and negotiating key contractual documentation, including power purchase agreements (PPAs), engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, and operation and maintenance (O&M) agreements.

  • Conducting regulatory and permitting due diligence for renewable energy and low-carbon projects, ensuring alignment with EU environmental, energy, and state aid rules.

  • Structuring and supporting joint ventures and special purpose vehicles (SPVs) for clean energy infrastructure development and cross-border cooperation mechanisms.

  • Advising on participation in carbon markets and emissions trading mechanisms, including compliance with the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and voluntary carbon offset schemes.

  • Evaluating investment readiness of renewable energy projects through integrated legal, financial, and technical appraisals, including assessment of resource availability, grid connection viability, and long-term revenue stability.

  • Supporting the development and deployment of green hydrogen production facilities, electrolyser projects, and associated infrastructure under the EU Hydrogen Strategy and related regulatory frameworks.

  • Assisting in the structuring, financing, and deployment of energy storage systems (including battery and thermal storage) and flexible assets to enhance grid stability and renewable integration.

  • Providing legal and strategic support for the modernisation, digitalisation, and expansion of transmission and distribution networks, including cross-border interconnectors and smart grid infrastructure.

  • Engaging with national regulatory authorities, transmission system operators (TSOs), distribution system operators (DSOs), institutional investors, and EU bodies to align project implementation with regulatory requirements and policy objectives.

  • Monitoring legislative and policy developments under the European Green Deal, Fit for 55 package, REPowerEU, and related instruments to ensure that projects remain compliant and strategically positioned.
