Clemens assists with any issues or questions in the area of German and EU competition law, in particular in relation to merger control (and in this context also regarding Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) control), cartel investigations (including atypical cartels), abuse of dominance cases and vertical issues (e.g., in relation to distribution systems or technology transfer).
Clemens’ practice extends to EU State aid law. This includes for instance the handling of State aid complaints before the European Commission, the challenge of Commission State aid decisions before the European Courts or also State aid litigation in German courts.
Clemens offers advice in the area of energy and environmental law, e.g., in the electricity sector (demand response) or in the area of renewable energies in the transport sector. Clemens has experience with EU fisheries law.
Clemens offers his services to help businesses adapt to changing regulatory requirements, for instance by developing and implementing compliance and training programmes.
Clemens has been recognized by Who's Who Legal (now Lexology) from 2018 to 2024 as a ‘future leader’ in competition and as a ‘recommended lawyer’ in competition (2025).
Clemens’ native language is German; he is fluent in English, Italian and French and has a basic knowledge of Spanish and Dutch.
